Spanish police are searching for a British tourist who has been missing in the Canary Islands for two weeks.

Richard Michael Lee, 56, was last seen having breakfast at the Torre del Conde hotel in La Gomera's capital of San Sebastian on 7 October.

He is a keen hiker and, according to the Daily Mail, police believe he may be stuck in a ravine in the Garajonay National Park, a world heritage site dating back 11 million years.

He arrived on the island solo on 5 October and was due to return to the UK on 19 October.

Hotel staff raised the alarm with Guardia Civil officers on the 14 October, after he had not been seen for a week; his clothing and suitcase were still in his room.

Police said several theories relating to his disappearance were being considered, but that they were currently focusing on the idea that he has gone missing while hiking.
