The footage shows the rescue of an eight-month-old baby elephant who became stuck in a 5ft-deep watering well on the grounds of the Amboseli national park in Kenya.

Its mother, Zombe, is seen becoming increasingly anxious, and has to be scared off by the Amboseli Trust for Elephants, so they can get on with the job of saving her calf.

At first, the team seem to struggle to attach a rope around the calf as the low-lying water caused the cord to float to the surface.

Finally they managed to secure it and used a jeep to haul the baby out to safety.

In scenes that could melt the hardest of hearts, the little calf then runs as fast as he can across the plain towards the cries of its mum, who, in turn, comes running to meet him.

They then embraced with their trunks, and the rescue team, surely, went home extremely happy people that day.
