Exclusive: New Nissan taxi caught testing in London

Taxi! But not as you currently know it... This is the new Nissan NV200 London Taxi caught testing in the wilds of London this week by an eagle-eyed Autoblog reader.

Not due on sale until the New Year, the revolutionary black cab is already pounding the streets of the capital as engineers aim to iron out any issues before launch.
The firm's rival taxis, from LTI and Mercedes, have notoriously suffered from reliability problems, so the Japanese manufacturer is obviously intent on ensuring the launch of its new model goes smoothly.

The NV200 London Taxi features a 1.5 dCi engine, six-speed manual and achieves 53.3mpg on a combined cycle meaning – that's nearly a 50 per cent fuel saving on the most efficient TX4 with its combined cycle figure of 35.3mpg. It even has USB charging points in the back for passengers to use on their journey.

Cabbies are looking forward to the new Nissan models arrival too. Steve McNamara, general secretary of the Licensed Taxi Drivers' Association, said: "From what I've seen of the NV200 London Taxi, it ticks all the right boxes. It's important that it looks like a cab, is comfortable and is reliable. If the fuel consumption figures are as promised, it will be a big seller."

Expect to see more NV200 engineers getting "The Knowledge" on their new model on the capital's streets over the coming months.
