A British man has been found dead after a yacht capsized off the coast of north west Spain yesterday.

Rescuers found his body near the wreckage after the boat hit rocks near the Galician city of La Coruna.

The man was identified as a 72-year-old from London.

A source involved in the rescue operation told the Daily Mail: "Witnesses have told us they saw two more people on board the boat.

"Given the dead man is British, there is every chance they may be British as well.'

A spokesman for the Civil Guard in La Coruna, which is taking part in the search, said: "At the moment we are working on the assumption one and maybe two more people were on board the vessel.

"A major operation involving two coastguard vessels and a helicopter is ongoing."

The news comes just two days after a British man died when a tourist boat capsized in Cape Town.

A British woman was, however, found alive under the hull of the catamaran that capsized off Hout Bay, near Cape Town, South Africa.

She was trapped for two hours and is believed to have survived because she found an air pocket which kept her alive in shark-infested water at a temperature of around 11C, with 5ft waves. Two other women were later rescued from inside the hull and all three are now in hospital.
