The tail end of Hurricane Nadine, which petered out over the Atlantic on Thursday night, is expected to hit Britain later today, bringing heavy rain and strong winds.

The Daily Star reports that the water-logged South-West, where up to 36mm of rain fell on Friday night, will be the worst hit area - leading the Environment Agency to issue more than 30 flood alerts.

Sky News forecaster Isobel Long said: "Flooding concerns are likely to increase again late on Sunday and into Monday as a frontal system sweeps in across southwest Britain, bringing heavy rain.

"As a result, the Environment Agency has now issued seven flood warnings across the southwest region."

The Environment Agency is expecting today's rain to cause significant problems.

In a statement the agency said: "We're warning communities across South West England and southern Wales to be vigilant and alert for flooding as heavy rain is set to return on Sunday afternoon and into Monday."

The Met Office has issued an amber alert for rain the South West for Monday.

It's expected to be an unsettled week across the UK, with wet and windy weather and occasional sunny spells.
