New Toyota Auris hatchback
Toyota has released the prices for its sharp-looking new Auris, and has issued details of what will become the firm's first hybrid estate.

The Auris, which will be built at Toyota's plant in Burnaston, Derbyshire, goes on sale at the end of the year with a starting price of £14,495.
Four trims are on offer - Active, Icon, Sport and Excel - with even the basic ''Active'' coming laden with automatic air conditioning and a stereo with USB and Aux connectors.

Mid-spec ''Icon'' comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, a DAB radio and Toyota's ''Touch'' multimedia system that includes a handy rear-view camera, while top-of-the-range 'Excel' will even reverse itself into a space using the 'Park Assist' system.

A hybrid model is also on the way, and starts from £19,995 - £800 less than the current model, and £1,600 less than the ubiquitous Prius.

A practical Auris 'Touring Sports' is on the way too - the first estate under the Auris nameplate, and a bodystyle Toyota say will account for a quarter of sales.

Longer than the hatch by 28cm, it comes with an extended loadspace - the dimensions of which are yet to be revealed - and will also be offered as a hybrid, making it one of the few estates on sale with the green powertrain.
