German Catholics must pay religious tax or leave

If you want to observe the traditions of the Catholic faith in Germany, then you're going to have to put your money where your faith is, after Germany's bishops announced a new tough stance on the country's religious taxes.

They will withhold everything from the right to Holy Communion to a Catholic burial unless people pay an additional 8% on income tax. But why are they doing this?
