A Canadian dentist is spending a month in Ireland trying to track down a woman he met for just two minutes in a cafe in Ennistymon, County Clare in July last year.

Dr Sandy Crocker, from British Columbia, spoke briefly to the woman in An Teach Bia cafe on July 9, 2011, when he was travelling with his brother.

He describes her as being in her mid- to late-20s, with freckles and reddish-brown hair.

He asked her for directions just before she left the cafe, then spent the rest of the day looking for her - to no avail.

Even though they barely met, Sandy hasn't been able to forget her - so he's dedicated four weeks to tracking her down.

He told local newspaper the Clare People: "We stopped in Ennistymon to grab a bite to eat. She was eating and I didn't want to interrupt her meal so I waited until I noticed that she was leaving and spoke to her. I asked her for directions to the Cliffs of Moher.

"I was leaving Ireland a day later so, at first, I didn't see the point in pursuing things more - but after she left I decided that I had to. So we paid our bill quickly and myself and my brother started looking for her.

"We searched the town for an hour or two and couldn't find her, so we went to the Cliffs but later that evening we came back and looked for her again for another two hours. But there was no trace of her."

He added: "She never left my mind, so I decided why not go back and try to find her. Maybe it's a shot in the dark but if it's meant to be, if it's fate. then I might bump into her walking down the street or in a shop somewhere."

Although he accepts that his mystery woman might not be interested - or might be in a relationship already - Dr Crocker things that it's a risk worth taking.

He said: "I think that it is so rare to meet someone and have a connection, so when you do meet someone you really should give it a shot."

The Sun reports that Sandy will spend the next couple of days in the Clare area, before travelling to Cork to continue his search.

If he hasn't found the object of his affections by then, he will return to Clare for a week before travelling to Belfast.
