Don't Panic! Dad's Army van to go under the hammer

One of the stars of the classic British sit-com Dad's Army is all set to go under the hammer in December.

The 1935 Ford Box Van – more famously known as Lance Corporal Jones' butcher's van – has been catalogued with an estimate of between £20,000 and £30,000.
Many believe it to be as much a star in Dad's Army as the madcap characters, and played a vital role in the fictional Walmington-on-Sea branch of the Home Guard.

It was know by millions for often transporting Captain Mainwaring, Private Frank Pike and 'family butcher' Lance Corporal Jones on many a diverse wartime skirmish.

Don't panic, though – the portholes in the roof and side panels used to poke riffles through are still present and correct.

It appeared in many of the 80 farcical episodes and has been part of the private Patrick Collection since 1990.

The Birmingham collection began in the 1930s to "represent the past, present and future of the motor car", according to current collection proprietor Alexander Patrick.

The third instalment of the Patrick collection auctioned by Bonhams is taking place on December 3, at Mercedes-Benz World, Brooklands in Surrey.

Nineteen cars are up for grabs with other highlights including a 1938 Jaguar SS100, a 1931 Invicta 4.5-litre S-Type and a 1904 Wolseley 12hp.
