A new list of books Britons are most likely to leave behind in hotel rooms has been revealed and the top title is EL James' erotic novel, Fifty Shades of Grey.

The research by budget hotel chain Travelodge featured other popular books, such as Stieg Larsson's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games.

A whopping 7,000 copies of Fifty Shades of Grey had been found in its hotel rooms.

The findings published on This is Local London also revealed The Help by Kathryn Stockett in the top 10 list.

In previous years, books by Katie Price, Piers Morgan and Alastair Campbell were left behind the most frequently.

'It is interesting to see for the first time ever that our top 10 books left behind index is not being dominated by celebrity biographies and chick lit books which it has done in the past,' says Travelodge spokeswoman Shakila Ahmed.

'Trilogies have dominated the charts this year with Fifty Shades of Grey topping the poll. So popular is this book, our hotel staff have reported that business and leisure customers of all ages are reading this trilogy. Customers cannot get enough of Mr Grey and Miss Steele, they are even reading the book whilst eating breakfast and dinner.'

Travelodge said that more than 21,000 books have been discarded in 36,500 hotel rooms in the past 12 months.
