Time running out for overdue taxpayers

Taxpayers are being offered the chance to avoid hefty fines over late returns under a new initiative from HMRC.

Higher rate taxpayers yet to file a tax return for 2009/10 or earlier have until 2 October to do so and pay outstanding tax and NI contributions in order to receive more a favourable penalty than if HMRC tracks them down first.
