A baby was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries yesterday, after his pram fell into the River Thames.

The Daily Mail reports that the five-month-old infant was being taken for a walk along the river in between Laleham village and Staines in Surrey when the accident happened.

According to witnesses, the boy's father was pushing the pram when it went over the edge of the river bank at around 11.30am yesterday.

Onlookers rushed to help the father, who was also looking after another child, rescue his son.

The baby was taken to St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey, where he is receiving treatment.

The Telegraph reports that it is not known how the pram fell into the river and are appealing to witnesses to contact Surrey Police.

Detective Sergeant Paul Aldridge said: "Officers are supporting and working closely with the parents of the baby boy to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident."
