Caters

The terrible weather hasn't just drowned out holidaymakers. This horse got stranded in a muddy pond - and had to be rescued by firefighters, who took three hours to pull him onto dry land.

The gelding became trapped after wading into thick mud on farm land in Radcliffe, Greater Manchester.

When his owner discovered him, he called Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, who turned up to rescue the beleaguered creature along with the RSPCA.

The horse, who is 27 and named Jeremy, was suffering from hypothermia when he was pulled out.

And if that doesn't bring a warm glow to your heart, how about this? His best friend, Misty the donkey, never left his side while he was being rescued.

Owner Jayen Renshaw told BBC News: "Misty was standing over there with him. I think she had to turn away at times too.

"They're like Little and Large - they're best buddies."
