Ball of ice from passenger plane crashes through couple's roof

A ball of ice dropped from a passenger plane overhead crashed through the roof of a couple's bungalow and shattered across the living room floor.
It is thought to have plummeted from an aeroplane thousands of feet above Paul and Deirdre Walker's bungalow in Firs Avenue, Ashbourne, Derbyshire.
The frozen mass, the size of a medicine ball, punched a hole around a foot in diameter through their tiled roof and the plastered ceiling below before smashing across the carpet.
Paul, a retired aerospace chemist, told the Daily Mail: "It sounded like someone had pushed over a glass cabinet.
"It was an enormous bang followed by a crashing noise. Just a loud shattering noise, that's all I can describe it as.
"It wasn't like anything I've ever heard before, which is not surprising really."
Although Paul, a father of two and grandfather of three, was responsible to monitoring pollution from planes, he said he had never come across this, adding: 'I've heard of it and I've read about it, but even though you know these things happen, you never expect it's going to happen to you.'
Derbyshire police said the incident had been recorded as a '"natural disaster".
