A 21-year-old American hiker made a humorous video diary reminiscent of the film 127 Hours after breaking her ankle and becoming stranded while hiking on a mountain in Wyoming.

The Daily Mail reported how Alexandra 'Lexi' De Forest, of Colorado, stayed calm with comedy while coping with the excruciating pain and waiting for her friend to return from searching for help.

Alexandra fell after attempting to jump over a large trench last Saturday and shattered her ankle, leaving her stranded on the mountainside and in fear of bears.

The Colorado State University student made the video diary while her friend rushed for help and distracted herself from the horrifying prospect of dying alone in the wilderness.

Speaking to Fox News, she said: 'Speaking out loud and my stream-of-consciousness settled me.

'I was talking about my loved ones and my dog. Anything to keep me from staring at my ankle. It was pretty gross.'

After watching the sun go down from the top of a nearby rock formation, Alexandra and her companion Erik Henry walked to campsite and came across the eight-feet-deep and six-feet-across trench, which Henry successfully leaped across and Alexandra slipped into when she prepared to jump.

The brave student admitted to a moment of panic when she first saw her detached ankle.

'I felt blood all over me, my knees and elbows were cut, and my plan immediately was to crawl down the mountain,' she told FoxNews.

Crawling proved too painful and after Henry became too exhausted from carrying her, Alexandra was left alone as night was setting in while Henry rushed off to find help.

The footage starts with Alexandra showing her foot completely twisted and blood running down her trainers.

'So, this is me. I just broke my ankle. Eww. For the second time now,' she says as the film starts.

Although she remains calm through most of the video, at one point Alexandra does admit to being petrified and says: 'I am ******* scared. I am really scared. But in, like, the calmest, coolest sense.

'I'm not going to tell you how scared I am of bears right now,'

The student eventually spots her rescuers after an hour of being stranded alone. She was later airlifted to the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Colorado and released on Wednesday night.

In the film 127 Hours, hiker Aron Ralston was forced to saw off his own arm after it became trapped under a bolder for five days.
