A 20-year-old British holidaymaker has died after an alleged vodka binge on the party holiday town of Ayia Napa in Cyprus.

According to reports in the Daily Mail, George Yuill, from south east London, died in his hotel on Monday morning.

The paper says that a post-mortem examination found that he died of asphyxiation after suffocating on his own vomit.

Mr Yuill, along with five other friends, had reportedly drunk 10 three-litre bottles of vodka and 2 beers during a marathon drinking session.

According to the Cyprus Mail, state pathologist Eleni Antoniou carried out the autopsy. She said that he had gone to lie down on the hotel balcony, but friends brought him inside and laid him down on the apartment floor, where he later died.

Mr Yuill is one of three tourists to die in the resorts of Paphos and Ayia Napa in the last three days.

A 42-year-old holidaymaker from Russia drowned off the coast of Paphos on the second day of his holiday with his wife and 11-year-old son.

On Sunday morning a 30-year-old Romanian man was found by friends at Nissi Beach in Ayia Nappa where he is believed to have drowned after going for a swim while drunk.
