More sunshine for Britain with 27C heat before Olympics closing ceremony

Forecasters have predicted another warm weekend after Thursday saw the hottest day of the Olympics with the capital basking in 27C heat.

After a hot Saturday, there will be heavy showers across the south-east of England by Sunday afternoon but these should clear the Olympic stadium in East London, where the closing ceremony will start at 9pm, the Telegraph reported.

Met Office chief forecaster Eddy Carroll said: 'We are heading towards another spell of fine weather...with warm sunny spells for many, but may break down towards the end of the weekend.'

Meteorologist at the Weather Channel, Leon Brown, told the Telegraph that the showers would affect Sunday's marathon runners but would ease up by the afternoon.

Low cloud and a misty and foggy start are expected in the north-east and east Scotland on Sunday.

Mr Brown told the newspaper: 'Temperatures will be a little lower on Saturday and highest in the west with a moderate south-east to east breeze.

'We will see showers moving east on Sunday with scattered thunderstorms and local heavy downpours.

'Next week will be very unsettled across the UK. The jet stream moves back south and low pressure systems will cross the UK from the south-west.

'There will be heavy rain at times and local flooding a possibility from south-west England and Wales to northern England and southern Scotland, also becoming quite windy.'
