Vietnamese airline fined for mid-flight 'bikini show'
A Vietnamese airline has been fined for hosting a mid-flight dance by bikini-wearing beauty pageant contestants - without securing permission to do so first.
The (usually) no-frills carrier, VietJet Air, was fined 20m dong (£611) by Vietnam's aviation authorities for organising the Hawaiian-themed dance to celebrate its first flight between Ho Chi Minh City and the popular tourist destination of Nha Trang, according to the Brisbane Times.
Five candidates from a local beauty pageant performed a three-minute dance on 3 August during the maiden flight, while passengers recorded the show on their phones.
According to the BBC, a statement on the company's website says that it wanted to capture a "holiday atmosphere" for its new flight route to Nha Trang, itself a holiday hotspot.
It said: "Once passengers stepped on board they were met by flight attendants dressed in beach holiday attire [who] performed a sexy Hawaii dance."
But Nguyen Trong Thang, chief inspector of Vietnam's civil aviation body, said the airline "had violated the local aviation regulations by organising unapproved show on a plane".
