Enjoy it while it lasts! Rain back this weekend and hot August unlikely

After days of hot and sunny weather across Britain, the Met Office says rain and cooler temperatures will return - and August isn't looking any better.

According to the Daily Mail, forecasters say there is only a 10 per cent chance of showers for the Olympic opening ceremony tonight after thunderstorms in London this afternoon will pass before the 8.12pm pre-show starts.

Caroline Bain at the Met Office told AOL Travel: 'Today will be rather more cloudy than of late, with showers across the south east through the day, some of them heavy.

'These are expected to clear during the evening to leave it mainly dry for the opening ceremony. However, there remains a small chance of a shower lingering in the evening, although there is a good chance it will be mainly dry.'

Today will see temperatures reach 27C in the south and 22C in the north with a warm evening of around 21C before a cooler weekend.

Saturday will see lows of 19C and on widespread showers are expected on Sunday.

Temperatures will reach highs of 21C next week and are predicted to drop to single figures on Monday night, with lows of 8C in the north.

'Beyond the weekend we are set to move to more unsettled conditions with a mixture of bright or sunny spells and showers or longer spells of rain at times,' said Caroline.

A Met Office spokesman told the Daily Mail the weather in August would 'remain changeable'. The first week of the month will be a washout and overall, 'temperatures will be below normal and it will feel much cooler than recent days' the spokesman said.

Yesterday, temperatures were higher than in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where it was just 27C.
