British man sentenced to six months in Dubai jail for 'pinching girl's bum'

A British man has been sentenced to six months in a Dubai jail after being accused of "pinching a girl's bum".

Steven Sheriff, 43, was said to have pinched a 23-year-old's bottom as well as groping her between the legs, and punched unconscious by her angry boyfriend.

But businessman Steven, who's lived in Dubai for seven years, called the verdict "insane", and said he did not touch the girl.

Mr Sherriff, originally from Belfast, told The Sun: "This is insane. How can I be found guilty when one of the witnesses says I didn't do it? If I go to jail, it is going to ruin everything. It's a nightmare.

"She admitted she didn't see who did it but insists it was me because she turned around and I was there. Her own friend told police I did not touch the girl. It's ridiculous I've been sentenced."

He is married to a Danish woman, Belinda, who added: "He doesn't even know how to flirt, let alone do this."

Mr Sheriff, who will be deported after his prison term, said he will appeal against the sentence, but it running out of money or legal bills.
