Suzuki has made its Alto CZ city car Britain's cheapest new car at under £6,000, as part of a special offer.

The best news is that it is a real, modern car, not a 20-year-old Japanese cast-off being recycled by some emerging market manufacturer. As a bonus, the latest version has CO2 emissions of just 99 g/km, which means no road tax and zero congestion charge for London (but remember you have to register for congestion charge exemption – it is not automatic). It also has an official fuel consumption of 65.7 mpg.
