Korean Air has issued an apology after a notice on its website announcing non-stop flights from Korea to Kenya described its indigenous people as being full of "primitive energy".

Muthui Kariuki, who is handling public relations for Korean Air in Kenya, said the notice has now been removed, and that the use of the word "primitive" was a result of translational mistake from Korean to English.

Kariuki also said the airline would post an official apology on its website.

Many Kenyans angered by the error took to Twitter to let off steam. According to the Huffington Post, one user, called George Njoro, said: "An insult to a nation. Kenya doesn't have primitive people."

Another user suggested the mistake wasn't wasn't an error at all, and called it a "nice marketing strategy", adding: "Now everybody knows Korea Air is coming to Kenya."

The airline will fly to Kenya three times a week from Thursday.
