Beach-going families in New York have expressed their anger at local authorities who refuse to rebuild a fence that separated a family beach from a nudist one.

The chain-link fence that divided the kids-friendly Neponsit beach from the adults'-only Riis Patk was blown down during Hurricane Irene and has not been reconstructed.

Neponsit visitors claim they have to put up with witnessing 'sex and other lewd activities' that take place at Riis Park.

Riis Park is operated by the National Parks Service, and Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe told local officials that the law requires public access to all beaches below the high tide line.

He told the NY Daily News: "This fence has blocked access between two public beaches for decades. Having free passage between them will allow New Yorkers to fully experience the great sweep of the Rockaway peninsula."

Meanwhile, a recent survey revealed which nation is the most likely to enjoy a bit of naked beach holiday sunbathing and, you might have guessed, it's definitely not us Brits.

No, the nation that loves stripping off on the sand the most are the Germans, according to Expedia's recent survey of 8,599 adults about beach holidays.
