Facelift for Kia Sorento
A facelifted Kia Sorento will arrive in the UK in the autumn.
The revised model receives a re-engineered bodyshell, revised styling front and rear, plus reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The styling features new headlamps with LED highlights, a new tailgate with LED rear combination lamps, new bumpers (front and rear) and the option of 19-inch alloys.
Inside the five- or seven-seater cabin, there are more soft-touch surfaces plus a new LCD instrument cluster and new centre panel with a 7-inch display screen. This is the area that was most in need of work. When we drove the Sorento, we were generally impressed with the car, but thought it was very badly let down by some cheap interior plastics apparently borrowed from the Kia Picanto city car. If that problem has been solved, it will be a much more competitive product.
Another interior enhancement is that the interior can now be specified with a larger panoramic sunroof with no centre cross beam.
It is not yet clear what Kia means by a "re-engineered bodyshell". There is not much you can do to a bodyshell in engineering terms short of replacing it completely – presumably Kia means it has retuned the chassis to give better ride and handling.
The new Sorento is due to arrive in the UK around September and full details of UK specification and trim will be available over the summer.
