A Scottish teenager died yesterday after falling from his hotel balcony on a Club 18-30 holiday in Corfu, Greece.

Ian Knox, 19, from Glasgow, fell from his apartment balcony in the party town of Kavos, Corfu.

A holiday rep had to break the news to his parents, who flew to the island straight away last night.

According to the Scottish Sun, police officials said: "The initial conclusion is that he died from the fall and that foul play is ruled out.

"Furthermore, the medical coroner's first conclusions are that no violence had preceded the fall."

A specialist police team were heading to the island from Athens to launch an investigation into what exactly happened.

A Club 18-30 spokesman told the paper: "Our thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of our holidaymaker who has sadly died whilst in Kavos.

"Our team, both in Kavos and in the UK are offering all the support they can at this very difficult time."

The latest death follows a spate of fatalities of British holidaymakers in balcony plunges. In April, a 28-year-old man became the second British tourist to die in three days after falling from a fifth-floor balcony of a hotel in Magaluf, Majorca.

Benjamin Harper from Twickenham, South West London, fell from a balcony of the Sol Antillas Barbados Hotel in Magaluf at around 6am on Friday. He was staying at the four-star hotel as part of a stag party.

And, in May, a British woman fell 80ft from a hotel balcony in Magaluf after she lost her footing when she was trying to get rid of a spider in her suitcase.

Chantelle Serginson, 24, from Middlesborough, broke her legs in multiple places and fractured her skull following the fall from the sixth floor of the three-star Hotel Marina Barracuda, where a canopy prevented the injuries from being worse.

Last year, more than a dozen Britons fell from hotels in Spain and three died.
