Bentley SUV Concept to be shown at Goodwood
Bentley's highly controversial EXP 9F (that is the model name, not its registration number, you might be surprised to hear) will make an appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
After the near-universal derision that greeted its unveiling at this spring's Geneva Motor Show, one might have thought it would never see the light of day again. Bentley clearly believes that the whole world is out of step except them, so British public will get a chance to giggle at the charmless SUV, which looks like a 1970s American off-roader that has been treated to a Mansory bodykit. Or possibly something that Maybach would have come up with.Bentley is also promising another new model at the event, but only says it will be taking part in the "Supercar Run", which is an intriguing hint. There will also be a strong presence from historic racing Bentleys. The Bentley Speed 8, victorious at the 2003 Le Mans 24 Hours, will make two runs per day along the hill-climb course, as will the 4½-litre supercharged "Birkin Blower". Fresh from completing the 2012 Mille Miglia for the third time, the car was raced extensively by renowned Le Mans winner and Bentley Boy Tim Birkin of the 1920s.
Driving duties for the past and present Bentley models will be shared by three modern-day Bentley Boys. Le Mans legend Derek Bell MBE will be joined by four-time world rally champion Juha Kankkunen together with Guy Smith, who drove the winning Speed 8 across the finish line at Le Mans in 2003.
