The Seven Seas Explorer has probably one of the largest suites at sea at 4,333 sq ft. The Regent Suite is as luxurious as a cruise cabin gets, with two plush bedrooms, an in-room spa retreat (a first at sea), combining a personal sauna, steam room and treatment area. The suite also features an outdoor, glass-enclosed sitting area aptly named the Vista Garden, where you can enjoy magnificent, unobstructed 270-degree views over the ship’s bow and toward the horizon. A 16-night cruise in the Med in a Regent Suite costs from £32,199 per person.

S.S. Maria Theresa most lavish accommodation is the Royal Suite, a 410 sq ft stateroom with a French balcony, spacious living room, bathroom with separate rain shower and tub, secluded loo and bidet area and a handcrafted Savoir of England bed. The luxurious suite also features a flat-screen TV with infotainment centre and satellite. A stay in the Royal Suite on board the S.S. Maria Theresa costs from £6,179 per person for the eight-day Enchanting Danube river cruise from Passau to Budapest, departing 19 March 2017.

Located next to the tranquil Sanctum Spa onboard ships Azamara Quest and Azamara Journey, Azamara Club Cruises' Spa Suites are the ultimate in contemporary design, comfort and pampering. They offer easy access to the spa, open decks and swimming pool, and feature daily delivery of healthy snacks, Frette plush robes and slippers, plus in-room spa music. Each suite has a spacious glass-enclosed spa soaking tub and separate rain shower with views out to sea. Unique spa amenities are included, such as a complimentary Nights in Private Places experience for two and spa credit to be used for spa treatments of your choice. P&O Cruises' Penthouse Suites, which are available on Aurora, Azura and Ventura, are so luxurious that they come with a grand piano or library, a butler, an open spiral staircase that rises to a loft with a king-sized bed, an en-suite bathroom with a Jacuzzi and a private balcony. The suites also have walk-in dressing rooms, spacious lounges and dining tables for six. An 11-night Spain and Portugal cruise in a Penthouse Suite on Aurora costs from £3,949 per person.

This large suite boasts a luxurious king-size bed, separate dressing and living areas, plus a big veranda with sun loungers, a table and chairs. Sanctuary Ananda's Owner's Suite features a spacious bathroom with a freestanding tub, a monsoon shower and his-and-hers sinks. Guests have access to a private guide, butler service, complimentary laundry and exclusive dining experiences. Prices for a three-night cruise from Bagan to Mandalay start from £2,151 per person for the Owner's Suite and includes all meals and sightseeing.

With its own private entrance on the 14th deck, the two-bedroom Reflection Suite sprawls across 1,636 sq ft, with a wraparound veranda offering panoramic views, a sea-view bathroom which extends over the edge of a ship, a hot tub, 24-hour butler service and in-room iPad. The Reflection sails to Italy and Croatia and the Caribbean. The suite sleeps six and costs a mere £10,819 per person. If that's too much, tone it down a bit in a Signature Suite, which starts at £5,629 per person - you still get a huge veranda, floor-to-ceiling windows and butler service.

For the ultimate spa experience, Seabourn's Penthouse Spa Suites feature an expansive aft-facing private veranda, a stunning spiral staircase with direct access to the spa lobby and a separate bedroom with walk-in-wardrobe, bathroom with huge tub and a special spa shower. The living and dining area seats up to four people and there are two flat-screen TVs, a bar stocked with healthy drinks and snacks and additional in-suite spa amenities. Guests also get their own spa concierge and full-day access to The Spa. A seven-day Romance of the Rivieras itinerary departing Barcelona and sailing to Civitavecchia (Rome) costs £6,999 in the Penthouse Spa Suite.

The elegant and sprawling Owner's Suite on Viking Star is a place for spa lovers. One of its unique features is a private ocean-view sauna, inspired by Viking Cruises' Norwegian CEO Torstein Hagen. The master bathroom has double sinks and a large glassed-in power shower, while the living room, wet bar and dining nook for six provide sophisticated social spaces. The suite also has a powder room, a balcony equipped with cushioned loungers and a table with two chairs, along with a king-sized bed with luxury linens and a walk-in closet in the bedroom. An 11-day West Indies Explorer cruise in an Owner's Suite costs from £12,390 per person.

The Haven Courtyard Penthouse on Norwegian Epic comes with a queen-size bed, balcony, butler and concierge service. Guests staying in these cabins are part of the exclusive 'Haven' - a suite complex on two private decks at the top of the ship which gives exclusive access to the 'courtyard' with whirlpools, saunas and an alfresco restaurant and concierge lounge. Prices for a seven-night Western Mediterranean fly-cruise in the Haven Courtyard Penthouse start at £3,009 per person.

Renowned Peruvian architect Jordi Puig drew inspiration from regional cultures and traditions while designing the 16 stylish Design Suites on board Aria Amazon. The spacious suites feature polished timber flooring, floor-to-ceiling glass facing the Amazon River and en-suite bathrooms with rain showers and organic amenities. The king-sized bed is covered in 100% Peruvian cotton sheets and guests can lounge on a window-side day bed with binoculars in hand. A three-night itinerary starts from £2,919 per person.

Movenpick's luxury cruiser, the SS Misr, is one of the Nile's only steam ships. Built by the British Navy in 1818, none other than King Farouk used this as his private yacht: there are 16 cabins and eight suites, all with art deco interiors designed to recall the golden bygone era. Prices start at £220 per person per night, full board, including sightseeing tours.

The Amazonia Suites on board Amazon Discovery allow you to cruise the Amazon River in style. The 597 sq ft suites feature floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows, deluxe beds with fine Peruvian linens and a personal butler. Guests staying in the suite can take advantage of a 60-minute spa treatment each and can request a scented bath. Prices start from £4,965 per person for 11 days.

The 1,150 sq ft Penthouse Veranda Suites on seven of Holland America Line's ships feature king-sized beds, whirlpool baths, full ocean views, private verandas with whirlpools, living rooms, dining rooms, dressing rooms, pantries and private stereo systems. Winter cruises to the Caribbean start from £1,299 per person, based on two sharing a Verandah Suite.

Guests on Silversea's newest flagship Silver Muse will be able to stay in the ultra-luxurious Silver Suite, when the ship is delivered in spring 2017. The impeccable suite features a comfortable king-sized bed, beautiful marble bathroom and a terrace to bask in the ocean breeze. The upper deck location gives the most spectacular of sea views and the spacious living area allows for comfortable relaxing. The Silver Suite also comes with Bvlgari amenities, Pratesi fine bed linens and down duvet covers, as well as plush Etro bathrobes and slippers. A 12-day Athens to Rome voyage in the Silver Suite costs from £9,950 per person for the 15 July 2017 sailing.

There are two Deluxe Suites on board the Delfin I, a luxury boutique riverboat which journeys along the Amazon Basin. Each suite features a personal plunge pool on a private terrace, as well as private dining services and a king size bed wrapped by 180-degree panoramic windows stretching from floor to ceiling.
