How does he do it? Free diver drops to bottom of 33m pool

Updated

It's hard enough holding your breath under water for 10 seconds, but a new video shows daredevil free diver Guillaume Néry plunging 33 metres to the bottom of the world's biggest pool - without oxygen.

The 29-year-old carries out the amazing feat at the NEMO 33, a venue in Brussels, Belgium, that contains 2.5 million litres of non-chlorinated spring water and is usually used for training scuba divers.

But Frenchman Néry is no stranger to such underwater extremes; back in 2002 he broke the world record when he descended 87 metres in the Villefranche-sur-Mer harbour.

Then, in 2006, he knocked his own record out of the park by diving 109 metres in Nice, France.

But the record is now held by Herbert Nitsch, who managed a rather impressive 124 metres, according to the Daily Mail.
