An English country estate dubbed "a real-life Downton Abbey" is up for sale - for a modest £1.75 million.

The new owners of the castle and luxury holiday park will even be honoured as Lord and Master - as the deeds for the titles are included in the price.

Blenkinsopp Castle estate in Northumberland, built in 1339, is steeped in history and legend. The property is said to be haunted by the White Lady, the widow of Bryan de Blenkinsopp, who left her when she would not reveal where she had buried her treasure chest.

Current owner Mike Simpson has lived there ever since a fire burnt down the castle in the 1950s. His father bought the whole estate for just £2,000 and the family have spent the past 40 years restoring and caring for the entire estate.

Speaking in The Metro, Mike said: "It will be a big wrench to leave and, when I do go out, I will shed a tear."

And if you have a spare £1.75 million, it's on with estate agent Strutt and Parker.
