How safe are your uploads?

YouTube has just lost a major case in Germany and it may end up having either to pay for or take down a lot of video clips if the decision persists. The precedent could spread and opens up the question: who does own the stuff on YouTube and elsewhere, and could our individual shares, collections and websites - so how safe is the stuff on your system?
