Second Briton in three days falls to his death from Magaluf hotel balcony
A 28-year-old man has become the second British tourist to die in three days after falling from a fifth-floor balcony of a hotel in Magaluf, Majorca.
Benjamin Harper from Twickenham, South West London, fell from a balcony of the Sol Antillas Barbados Hotel in Magaluf at around 6am on Friday. He was staying at the four-star hotel as part of a stag party.
The Daily Mail reports that witnesses told police that he fell as he tried to climb between balconies. Paramedics spent more than an hour treating him at the scene but were unable to save his life.
His father, Kenneth, said: "It looks like he popped out on to the balcony for a cigarette, leaned over and fell. No foul play was involved."
Last week, Alan Atkinson, 20, from Castleford, West Yorkshire, died after falling down stairs at another hotel in the resort.
He was climbing stairs at the three-star Hotel Martinique when he lost his balance. Witnesses told police that he had been drinking heavily beforehand.
Last year more than a dozen Britons fell from hotels in Spain and three died.
A police spokesman in Majorca said: "It's a shocking start to the holiday season to have two men die at the same resort in less than a week."
