Number in debt falls but average bill increases by 17%

The number of households in debt to their energy supplier has dropped despite the average bill standing at 17% higher than a year ago, a study has found.

The poll for comparison website uSwitch.com found almost four million households, or 14%, are in debt to their energy supplier, down from 19% last year.
