The taxman wants to charge VAT on crime. HMRC is adding insult to injury by whacking 20% VAT on crime reports sent to insurers.

Every time you get burgled or mugged or have a car accident, the HMRC has told the police to make money out of your misery for the Treasury. Insurers cannot reclaim VAT, so it is pure revenue for Chancellor George Osborne and will add to the cost of insurance premiums.
