Man jailed for trying to open plane door mid-flight
A man who tried to open a plane door mid-flight has been jailed for 10 months.
Reynel Alcaide, from Burbank, Illinois, was also sentenced to three years supervised release and ordered to pay $7,000 in fines after pleading guilty to interfering with flight crew members and attendants, according to newsday.com.
Mr Alcaide was travelling on a Continental Airlines flight from Houston to Chicago last May when he repeatedly tried to open the exit door.
Fellow passengers and crew members had to restrain him and the flight made an emergency landing at Lambert Airport in St Louis.
Alcaide had reportedly said he had been experiencing marital problems, and had previously attempted suicide, according to the Associated Press.
