Skoda amongst lowest depreciating cars

Question: How do you double the value of a Skoda? Answer: Fill it with gold bars.

Yes the old Skoda joke, about doubling its value by filling it with petrol, is officially dead. Trade valuation experts, CAP, have published research in Auto Express showing that the three lowest depreciating cars in the UK are the Audi Q5, Skoda Yeti and Fiat 500 Abarth.

Rates of depreciation are simply a function of supply over demand – manufacturers can generate as many new car sales as they want with big discounts to fleet buyers, but they have far less control of the used car market.

Used car buyers are making individual decisions with their own wallets. The Audi Q5 is new and trendy, so it is in big demand on the used car market - although that could be eclipsed when the rival Range Rover Evoque hits the used car market: that is likely to appreciate rather than depreciate for its first few months.

The Skoda Yeti is more unusual, as it has been around since 2009. However, Skoda in the UK simply cannot get enough from the factory, so demand has consistently exceeded supply. The Fiat 500 Abarth is a comparatively rare version of the popular 500, so there is always going to be strong demand for the top-of-the-range version on the used car market.
