A young British holiday rep has died in a tragic ski accident in the French resort of Val d'Isere.

The 22-year-old was enjoying a day off from his job as a rep for Crystal Ski in the nearby resort of La Plagne, when he crashed into a snow-making cannon on the Solaise red run.

His girlfriend and colleagues immediately alerted ski patrol but, although medics fought for more than an hour to try and save his life, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man, thought to be from Leicester, had worked the first half of the ski season at the resort of Meribel.

A spokesman for Crystal Ski's parent company, TUI Ski, told the Daily Mail: 'We are very sorry that this tragic accident has happened.

According to Travel Mole, the company has sent a welfare counsellor to France to help staff who witnessed the accident.

They are also helping the man's family be flown to France. A Crystal Ski spokeswoman told Travel Mole: "Our thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues at this very difficult time."
