Tablet computers like the iPad and the Samsung Galaxy Tab are in; casserole dishes and step ladders are out. The Office for National Statistics has updated its shopping basket to accurately measure inflation in Britain.

The annual revamp of the basket is always a good indicator of changing tastes and fashions - it provides a fascinating insight into what we chuck into our shopping baskets and what we like to spend our money on more generally.
