Better than the Med! Is this really Britain's best beach destination?

Oh, we do like to be beside the seaside - and Tripadvisor's latest Travellers Choice Awards reveals that Bournemouth is our absolute favourite British beach destination.

In fact we love it so much that we'd prefer to go to Bournemouth than the Med. The Dorset resort not only claimed the hotspot in Britain, it also ranked above almost every Mediterranean destination in Tripadvisor's top ten European beaches, beating British favourites such as Benidorm in Spain and Albufeira in the Algarve.

The Top Ten Best British Beach Destinations reveals that when it comes to being beside the sea we're definitely a divided nation. Eight out of the ten destinations on the list are in the south west, with Cornwall, Devon and Dorset scooping all the top spots - only Tenby in Wales and St Brelades in Jersey outside this region.
