Geneva Motor Show: Maserati GranTurismo Sport

The Maserati GranTurismo S is dead. Long live the Maserati GranTurismo Sport. Other than simply add 'port' to the end of the fastest GT's name, Maser has been doing some rather special tinkering.

The fashion-tastic brand felt that the S simply wasn't enough for its fast-paced, perma-tanned buyers, so have given the 4.7-litre V8 a light going over.
It now delivers 460bhp and comes with a rather perky 383lb ft. That means it'll hit 62mph from rest in just 4.7 seconds and will go on to 186mph. Zingy.

Looking at the numbers, though, you get the impression that an Audi R8 V8 can take it on in a fight. Maybe it can, but Maserati hasn't stopped at upping the power. Oh no, the electro-actuated gearbox has been given a boost and now changes gear in just 100 milliseconds.

Sport Skyhook continuous damping has been fitted, too. It means the car's damping is constantly adjusted to give you a sportier ride while keeping your passenger, who'll presumably have a look of utter indifference on her face, nice and comfortable. It comes with two modes – Sport, which is designed to make the car rock hard and sporty, and Normal, which makes it... normal.

Cosmetic enhancements mean it's more aerodynamically friendly than before, too. That front bumper has been redesigned to better cool the front brakes.

The front headlamp cluster has been fiddled with, too. There's now a cluster of ultra-bright daytime running LEDs.

As with all Maseratis, the trident logo is EVERYWHERE. It's chromed on the grille, dotted around the inside, on its flanks and the wheel hubs and, of course, integrated into the wheels' design. Smart, if overbearing.

The rear's been restyled to tidy it up a little bit, too. It looks rather lovely.

Want one? It's time to badger your Maserati dealer. Don't forget your sunglasses.
