Squeezed families are giving or loaning nearly £13,000 to children and grandchildren as they struggle with tough economic conditions, a report has found.

Lending between family members has increased since the start of the financial crisis, with the average sum of £12,846 having soared by nearly a third (31%) over the last five years, Scottish Widows said.
