Soaring care home charges - up by more than £4,000 a year, in some cases - is putting more pressure on UK pensioners to sell their homes. The rising fees are partly due to local councils cutting back on the number of poorer pensioners they fund.

It means price hikes - far more than inflation, in some cases - from some care home providers to ensure they maintain profit levels.
