Apps cost phone operators $13.9bn

Leading analyst company Ovum has come out with the astonishing figure that social apps cost the mobile phone operators $13.9bn (£8.9bn) in lost revenue from texts last year.

There's a debate about this, clearly - but the big question is going to be how they'll make up the shortfall.
