£9m iris passport scanners scrapped

It has emerged that airport iris recognition checks are to be scrapped. Some 385,000 passengers had submitted their details to the scheme, which cost an estimated £9 million.

But after criticism over the effectiveness of the technology, it is now due to be phased out in the next two years.
