50-plus jobless for UK scrapheap?

The latest unemployment stats - UK unemployment climbed by 48,000 to 2.67m in the last quarter - are worrying. Not just for younger people but increasingly for older people.

Evidence now suggests close to half of those aged 50 currently unemployed have actually been jobless for more than 12 months. So, is the UK creating a 'silver scrapheap'?
