'Squeezed middle' faces savings woe

Squeezed 35 to 44-year-olds saw their savings struggle more than any other age group last year amid high living costs and tough employment conditions, a "savings map" of Britain has found.

Seven in 10 Britons generally tried to boost their savings balances last year, typically holding around £17,875 worth of savings and investments, HSBC said.
