Gone are the urban goth and grunge looks too – this year we can look forward to a blossoming of floral prints and feminine silhouettes on the high street.

'Princess chic' isn't all floaty white dresses and ditsy flowers though. You'll find plenty of bold graphic, tropical and ethnic inspired prints in a riot of colours, from pastels - think cotton candy pinks, powder blues and powder lemon – to shocking neon brights.

Inspired by this year's Olympics, there's also a sporting theme running through many of 2012s spring/summer designs. Alexander Wang, Kenzo, Tommy Hilfiger and Jason Wu are just some of the designers feeling the sporty vibe. Look out for sporty silhouettes, cute girly anoraks, jackets with hoods and lots of athletic-inspired nylon on the high street.

As for accessories, earrings are set to be big this year, as are shell-inspired pieces and natural, textured looks.

The trick of course, is to keep it simple and work one or two of this season's trends into your wardrobe. A shell necklace and floral top worn with your favourite pair of jeans will freshen up your look. Or opt for a classic white T-shirt, ethnic earrings and a pastel coloured blazer for a spring pop of colour.

Colour-blocking is still on trend – invest in bold, solid-colour pieces and don't be afraid to go bright. Just remember to limit your look to a maximum of three colours per outfit. If you're new to colour-blocking, give a nod to the trend with a bright pop of colour in your accessories. A hot pink or neon blue belt and shoes will instantly glam up a simple dress.

The colour for spring/summer 2012 has to be tangerine. Add a splash of orange with a cute scarf, shoes or belt and you're sure to be on trend.
