A small panel from a Jetstar plane fell off mid-flight - but passengers were not at risk, says the airline.

The 15cm by 15cm oils service panel dropped off during a flight from Auckland to Christchurch in New Zealand on Tuesday, according to news.com.au.

A Jetstar spokesperson said: "Jetstar maintains safety as its number one priority and the aircraft underwent the necessary rectifications to the highest standard."

And a spokesperson from New Zealand's Civil Aviation Authority said losing the part during a flight would not pose a safety risk: "The panel would sweep down under the wing, and then flutter to ground."

Still, it's good to know bits aren't falling off the plane when you're 30,000ft up...
