When Lord Mandelson exhorts readers of the Financial Times not to give up on globalisation, it's a sign all is not well. Speaking about the World Economic Forum at Davos, the former EU Commissioner and much resigned New Labour minister noted that during the past few years, the anti-globalisation agenda had moved from the fringes to centre stage. It has become acceptable for world leaders to debate the shortcomings of capitalism and free trade, and the inequalities created by global markets.
