Shops scoop up supermarket booze

Updated

Christmas supermarket booze prices fell to new lows. So low, in fact, that it was cheaper for many local shop owners to buy booze from local supermarket than heading for the wholesaler.

For example, Famous Grouse fell to £12 from almost £16 (Asda) and both the Co-op and Tesco were flogging Gordon's Gin for £11. Some supermarket managers even ignored the usual maximum purchase waiver, it's claimed.
