Which airport has just been named the worst in the world?

Travel guide expert Frommer's has just announced its list of the best - and worst - airports in the world - and it makes some surprising reading.

New York's JFK Airport Terminal 3 takes the top spot for the world's worst. "There's a sense that the cleaning crew gave up in despair a while ago," writes Frommer's.

The review packs no punches: "Endless immigration lines in a dank basement, an utter lack of food and shopping options, three crowded and confusing entry points, and hallways that could have been designed by MC Escher for vomiting international travellers out onto an underground sidewalk with no cabs available.

In stark comparison, top of the world's best came the mysterious Saudi Arabia's Hajj Terinal at King Absul Aiz International Airport in Jeddah. It's only open six weeks a year - to cater for the millions of travellers who do the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca. Frommers says: "The most stunning feature is the 210 white fibreglass tents that create a chimney effect, cooling the hot desert air."
